The Pirate Trust is my local charity supporting children. It is the charitable arm of PirateFM in Cornwall , England and has been in existence since the inception of the radio station some 15years ago. In that time many £100's thousands have been raised and distributed throughout the Radio's area. A typical analysis of grants awarded recently is listed below:
- Childrens Nursery Groups
- Life Saving and Surfing Clubs
- Village Residents Associations
- Individual applicants with special needs
- Young people with communication and/or mobility problems
Last year (2005) the Trust successfully raised £80,000.00 under the Hospital appeal banner and awarded £40,000.00 each to Derriford Hospital and R.C.H.Tresliske, Cornwall .
The Pirate Trust is administered by a group of unpaid volunteers who are both active within the fundraising field and also a decisive body awarding grants. The Trust is supported wholeheartedly by the radio station and indeed some senior members of the station serve as Trustees.
